How No-Fault (PIP) Coverage Works in New Jersey
New Jersey is a no-fault state. That means after a car accident, medical care for your injuries is usually paid through the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage on your own auto insurance policy — no matter who caused the crash. You don’t have to prove fault to start getting treated.
Our role is the medical side. We evaluate your injuries, provide treatment, document everything clearly, and coordinate with your auto insurer — and your attorney, if you have one — so your care and your claim move together.
Crash Injuries We Treat
Car accidents put sudden force on the neck, spine, and joints. We commonly treat:
- Whiplash and neck pain
- Back injuries, including herniated and bulging discs
- Sciatica and radiating nerve pain
- Shoulder, knee, and hip injuries
- Sprains, strains, and soft-tissue injuries
- Pinched and compressed nerves
Feeling “okay” after a crash? Whiplash and disc injuries often show up hours or days later. Getting checked early protects both your recovery and your claim.
What to Do After a New Jersey Car Accident
1
Get Checked
See a doctor soon, even if pain feels minor — crash injuries can surface days later.
2
Notify Your Insurer
Report the accident to your auto insurance so your PIP coverage is ready.
3
Start Treatment
We evaluate you, order any imaging, and build a plan matched to your injuries.
4
We Coordinate
We document your care and work with your PIP carrier or attorney so nothing stalls.
This is general information, not legal advice. For questions about your claim, consider speaking with a New Jersey personal-injury attorney.
Our Minimally Invasive Approach
We use a step-and-ladder approach: start with the least invasive care that relieves your pain, and move up only if it’s needed. For most crash injuries, that means conservative care and targeted, image-guided procedures rather than open surgery.
Depending on your diagnosis, options may include physical therapy coordination, facet joint injections, epidural steroid injections, major joint injections, radiofrequency ablation, and minimally invasive spine procedures when appropriate.

New Jersey Car Accident FAQ
Who pays for my care after a New Jersey car accident?
In most cases, the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage on your own auto policy pays for your medical care after a crash — regardless of who was at fault, because New Jersey is a no-fault state.
Do I have to prove the accident wasn’t my fault?
No. Under New Jersey’s no-fault system, your PIP coverage applies whether or not you caused the accident.
I feel okay — should I still get checked out?
Yes. Whiplash, concussions, and disc injuries often show up hours or days after a crash. An early evaluation protects your health and documents your claim.
What if I have an attorney or a personal-injury claim?
We coordinate with your attorney and, in some cases, can treat on a lien. Bring any paperwork you have to your visit.
Which insurance do you accept for a New Jersey car accident?
We accept No-Fault/PIP, lien cases, most PPO and POS plans, and out-of-network benefits. Our NJ offices do not accept workers’ compensation, Medicare, Medicaid, HMO, or EPO plans.
Do I need a referral to be seen?
Usually not for PIP care. Call us and we’ll confirm what your coverage needs before your visit.
