How No-Fault (PIP) Coverage Works in New Jersey
New Jersey is a no-fault state. That means after a car accident, medical care for your injuries is usually paid through the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage on your own auto insurance policy — no matter who caused the crash. You don’t have to prove fault to start getting treated.

Who pays for my care after a New Jersey car accident?
In most cases, the Personal Injury Protection (PIP) coverage on your own auto policy pays for your medical care after a crash — regardless of who was at fault, because New Jersey is a no-fault state.
Do I have to prove the accident wasn’t my fault?
No. Under New Jersey’s no-fault system, your PIP coverage applies whether or not you caused the accident.
I feel okay — should I still get checked out?

What if I have an attorney or a personal-injury claim?
